They allowed LeMay to firebomb many Japanese cities, hardly the work of "nonbrutal men";
Please do not wish me a Happy Easter as you are hardly on the side of the Prince of Peace. Instead, I will pray God forgives the US for its many crimes after He brings it to repentence.
Oh we could have could we? And you know that how? Truman, Marshall and the others, who were not brutal men or murderers, had a different opinion and they were the ones who had to make the decision. After the war Japan was treated quite humanely by these same "war criminals". But you know better. Happy Easter.
The US could have gotten a "surrender" without the atomic attacks although the militarists in our own country have continued the myth that it would not. Apart from that, to firebomb cities killing thousands of civilians is a war crime whether committed by the US, Soviets, Nazi Germany, or the British.
Of course I'm not trying to justify it on that basis. The Japanese had no intention of surrendering. Even after Nagasaki there was a revolt of the Japanese Junior Officers trying to block the surrender. It would have cost hundreds of thousands of American lives to take the islands and millions of Japanese lives as well. The militarists could not be allowed to continue. The use of the bombs saved millions of lives. If you're too stupid to see that that's you're problem
He may not have been on the official roster but witnesses place him there. If we had listened to him we would be looking like the people in Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki.
Wrong.
So you are trying to justify the mass murder of Japanese civilians by LeMay based upon the crimes committed by Japanese soldiers. You are missing a major point (other than the one on your head): it is neither moral nor legal to directly target noncombatants-but you see to criminals like Lemay, Sherman, and Bomber Harris there are no "noncombatants".
If Nixon had been president the Soviet missiles would never have reached Cuba.
i dotn know that theres evidence on Lemay per se re"jfk,CLifton maybe
Lemay flew into washington from Canada november 22,1963,evening
Curtis LeMay was one of the key military point men for men who killed JFK. Just because his name wasn't on the list of autopsy personnel doesn't mean he wasn't tohe
The US would be a nuclear wasteland if this guy got his way in 62. RIP JFK
Here's the way it is. After the Rape of Nanking, the sexual enslavement of Chinese Philippine and Korean women, the Bataan Death March, and the standing Order to kill all POWs if Japan was invaded LeMay developed a strategy to force the surrender of Japan without an invasion. This resulted in 300,000 thousand civilian casualties but may have saved 500,000 American lives and perhaps 1,000,000 or more Japanese lives. War is hell. Was LeMay wrong? I don't think so.
LeMay flew many missions with his men...and his men respected him. Yes they dropped fire bombs on Tokyo. But the purpose was to knock out many of the factories in Tokyo that were building war materials. These factories were in the urban centers of Tokyo....and I think leaflets were dropped warning the people of the attacks.
exactly, Total War concept....kill more of theirs to save more of yours.
"Civilians can scarcely understand or even believe that many ambitious military professionals truly yearn for wars and the opportunities for glory and distinction afforded only in combat. Wars and emergencies put the military and their leaders on the front pages and give status and prestige to the professionals. Standing closely behind these leaders, encouraging and prompting them, are the rich and powerful defense industries. " --David Shoup, former Marine Corp Commandant, member of the JCS
how else would we have dealed with japan. destroy as many civilians as we can till they surrender, better than allied soldiers dying. RIGHT?
As a member of the Joint Chiefs during the Cuban Missile Crisis, LeMay recommended that President John F. Kennedy send the navy and SAC to surround Cuba and if need be, "fry it." When the crisis ended peacefully, LeMay called it "the greatest defeat in our history."

"At a Georgetown dinner party recently, the wife of a leading senator sat next to Gen. Curtis LeMay, chief of staff of the Air Force. He told her a nuclear war was inevitable. It would begin in December and be all over by the first of the year. In that interval, every major American city -- Washington, New York, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles -- would be reduced to rubble. Similarly, the principal cities of the Soviet Union would be destroyed." 19 July 1961
