no they're not ! most 13th chords have open strings and are quite easy. Check out Almir Chediak songbook with their chord diagrams and you'll see many 11th and 13th chords with open strings. Did you know that Em9 can be fully played with open strings ? Playing bossa with so-called "pop-easy" chord is just nonsense because bossa nova is mainly about beautiful harmony. Rhythm is also important, but the main characteristic of bossa nova is its unusual harmonization.

but, bossa and most latin for that matter is about syncopation not beat one. hes playing 1 2 and, for the rhythm. he is correct as latin isnt as based on 2 and 4, but if you just play 1 3 it wont sound latin.
