¡Qué maravilla!
I agree with your latter point: Schumann does not always 'sing' with his piano music but he does 'speak', being the consummate musical story teller. However, I would disagree that Schumann doesn't have the harmonic richness of Chopin or Liszt; maybe Schumann is more willing to be embrace the 'vulgar' in his music (as seen in Pierrot of Carnaval) in stark contrast to the unfailing grace of Chopin? Either way, I love both Schumann and Chopin!
"Speechless,without words!"
I know how you feel, I was confused too and I used to not like Schumann. I might be wrong, but I think it's that Schumann doesn't have the harmonic richness of Chopin and Liszt. Schumann isn't always "sung" sometimes it's "spoken" and you have to listen to the story, not the quality of the sound. Does that make sense?
A wonderful post, thanks in English, my Spanish is limited to muchos gracias!
coincido totalmente!!!
A-S-C-H :v
That 'change' comes straight out of 3rd movement (Rondo: Allegro) in Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 5, the "Emperor". I was surprised to hear it myself haha.
Since 4:57 this is absolutely amazing !!
¡Increíble y electrizante interpretación!... podría escucharla miles de veces, es indecriptible la energía y colorido en la culminación de la obra. La genialidad de Arrau no tiene límites.
¡Amazing and electrifying interpretation!... I could stay here, hearing this thousand times. I have no words to describe the color and energy that irradiates this performance... it is absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD!!
Thanks for posting this. It is awesome.
I adore tthat change in 4:55 !! is great!!!... since then till the end pure magic...
Deficente? Argumente el por qué le parece deficiente o, mejor todavía, suba su propia grabación haciéndolo mejor.
It is a great performance, but I can see why Chopin called this piece not music at all and why Schumann's piano music was not understood in its time. It comes alive only in the last section. What's missing is melody--there's something "basic"-sounding about all these pieces. It's surprising that this piece is so well-known. But maybe I'm just not able to connecdt with it. I like the mood. I like the variety, the rythms, the chords...it just doesn't SING for me...
Interpretazione fantastica!
Maestro!!
One word: AWESOME
Il grande maestro Arrau nel periodo del suo massimo splendore...
Grazie per questo magnifico documento.
Even Arrau can't bring me round to liking this piece.
